Page Content

High-speed fiberglass cable trays are lightweight, corrosion-resistant, fire-retardant, and designed to meet international load and safety standards while maintaining structural integrity under elevated temperatures.

Material Composition

Fiberglass cable trays are typically manufactured using pultrusion, compression molding, or resin transfer molding techniques. Pultruded components maintain a glass fiber to resin content of 45–65% by weight, while molded components range from 25–45%. Flat sheets have slightly lower fiber content (35–45%). All materials include UV inhibitors to resist degradation and are fire retardant, achieving a Class 1 flame spread rating (≤25) per ASTM E-84. Conductive resin systems may include carbon additives to dissipate static electricity, meeting ABS surface and volume resistivity requirements for marine installations .

Resin Systems

Fiberglass trays are available in polyester and vinylester resins, with a surface veil applied during pultrusion to enhance chemical resistance and UV protection. Vinylester resins offer superior corrosion resistance, while polyester resins provide cost-effective durability. Custom colors are available upon request .

Structural Design

Ladder-type trays consist of two longitudinal side rails connected by transverse rungs, providing high strength-to-weight ratios. They are lightweight (approximately 1/3 the weight of steel trays) yet maintain comparable or superior load capacity. Solid-bottom trays are available for sensitive or control wiring, with flat fiberglass covers bonded to the bottom. Siderail profiles, such as "E" or "Z" types, allow for space-efficient installation and easier cable loading .

Load Capacity and Standards

Load ratings are determined according to IEC 61537 and NEMA FG 1-1993, with tables or diagrams showing load vs. span based on maximum deflection. Trays are designed with a 1.5 safety factor relative to allowable working load. Elevated temperatures can slightly reduce rigidity; testing at 100–125°F ensures reliable performance in industrial or outdoor environments .

Performance Characteristics

  • Non-conductive and non-magnetic, reducing shock hazards and interference with radio, radar, or microwave signals.
  • Corrosion-resistant, suitable for offshore, chemical, petrochemical, and water treatment facilities.
  • Lightweight, facilitating easier installation and lower transportation costs.
  • Durable, with long service life and minimal maintenance requirements .

Compliance and Applications

Fiberglass cable trays comply with ASTM E-84, ASTM D-635, NEMA FG 1, and ABS rules for marine and industrial installations. They are widely used in offshore oil & gas platforms, chemical plants, refineries, and industrial facilities where corrosion resistance, fire safety, and structural reliability are critical . These specifications ensure that high-speed fiberglass cable trays provide a robust, safe, and long-lasting solution for demanding electrical infrastructure applications.
