H3C routers and core switches can be configured by setting management IPs, creating VLANs, configuring interfaces, enabling DHCP, and establishing routing for inter-department and internet connectivity.

Step 1: Access and Management Setup

  • Connect to the H3C device via console, SSH, or Telnet using a terminal emulation program .
  • Configure a management VLAN (avoid using VLAN 1) and assign an IP address to the management interface. For switches with a management Ethernet interface, use the M-GigabitEthernet 0/0/0 IP; otherwise, assign the IP to the VLAN interface .
  • Enable Telnet or SSH access and create a local user with administrative privileges using the local-user and class manage commands .

Step 2: VLAN and Interface Configuration

  • Create VLANs for different departments or network segments:

    vlan 10[Switch-vlan10] description DepartmentA[Switch-vlan10] quit

  • Assign IP addresses to VLAN interfaces on the core switch to allow inter-VLAN communication:

    interface Vlan-interface 10[CoreSwitch-Vlan-interface10] ip address 192.168.10.1 255.255.255.0[CoreSwitch-Vlan-interface10] quit

  • Configure access ports on edge switches and trunk or hybrid ports on uplinks to the core switch, allowing the necessary VLANs to pass .

Step 3: Link Aggregation and Trunking

  • Aggregate multiple physical links between access and core switches for higher bandwidth and redundancy:

    interface Eth-Trunk 1[Switch-Eth-Trunk1] mode lacp[Switch-Eth-Trunk1] trunkport GigabitEthernet 1/0/1[Switch-Eth-Trunk1] trunkport GigabitEthernet 1/0/2

  • Set trunk ports to allow all required VLANs and configure the default VLAN if needed .

Step 4: DHCP Configuration on Core Switch

  • Configure DHCP pools for each department:

    dhcp server ip-pool pool1[CoreSwitch-dhcp-pool1] network 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0[CoreSwitch-dhcp-pool1] gateway-list 192.168.10.1[CoreSwitch-dhcp-pool1] quit

  • Repeat for additional VLANs or departments .

Step 5: Routing Configuration

  • Configure a default route on the core switch pointing to the egress router for internet access:

    ip route-static 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.100.1

  • Ensure VLAN interfaces for each department are properly routed to allow inter-department communication .

Step 6: Optional Features

  • Enable STP to prevent loops and configure priorities if needed:

    stp enable stp priority 24576

  • Configure 802.1X authentication for port security and add local access users for network management .

Step 7: Save Configuration

  • Save the configuration to ensure persistence after reboot:
