Properly hanging a fiber distribution box involves selecting a suitable location, securely mounting the box, and carefully managing fiber optic cables to prevent damage.

Preparation

  1. Choose the installation location: Select a dry, ventilated, and stable surface. For indoor wall-mounted boxes, the bottom should be 1.2–2.5 meters above the ground; for outdoor installations, 2.8–3.2 meters is recommended. Avoid unstable walls, decorative facades, or areas with water pipes or high-voltage cables above the box .
  2. Check the equipment: Ensure the fiber distribution box, interface boards, protective sleeves, and all mounting hardware are complete and conform to specifications .
  3. Gather tools and materials: Expansion bolts, levels, protective ground cables, cable ties, cable grommets, and cable management accessories are essential .

Mounting the Box

  • Wall-mounted installation: Use expansion bolts to secure the box firmly and horizontally. Ensure perpendicularity deviation is less than 3mm .
  • Rack-mounted installation: Attach brackets to the sides of the box and fix them to the designated rack position with screws. Determine the installation direction based on network layout .
  • Pole-mounted installation: Use a pole mount bracket (e.g., YK-SX) with stainless steel bands and buckles. Insert the cable slack into the storage compartment and secure it before tightening the bands .

Introducing and Managing Fiber Cables

  1. Insert the fiber cable through the cable entry hole using a grommet to protect the cable jacket .
  2. Secure the cable inside the box with tape or cable ties to prevent loosening .
  3. Maintain proper bending radius: Avoid sharp bends to prevent signal loss or fiber damage .
  4. Plan cable routing: Ensure sufficient slack so that movable panels or drawers can be fully extended without tension on the fibers .

Final Steps

  • Connect fibers to the interface board using jumpers or pigtails as required .
  • Label and document: Mark cable directions, core numbers, and fiber types inside and outside the box. Place a record of fiber splitting in the box door slot .
  • Check stability and safety: Ensure the box is firmly mounted, horizontal, and all cables are secured without excessive tension . By following these steps, the fiber distribution box will be securely mounted, and the fiber optic cables will be protected, ensuring reliable network performance.
