1. Power On and Setup Turn on the EPM-50 Power Meter. The unit automatically saves the current wavelength, unit, and reference power. Ensure batteries are sufficiently charged, as low battery levels may affect calibration accuracy or cause the unit to turn off without saving settings . 2. Connector Preparation Select the appropriate connector adapter for your fiber type. Unscrew the existing adapter and attach the correct one. Always clean fiber ends with a lint-free swab and isopropyl alcohol, then dry with compressed air. Inspect the fiber end under a microscope to ensure cleanliness before connecting to the meter . 3. Offset Nulling Before measuring absolute power, perform offset nulling to eliminate electrical offsets. This step ensures that the meter reads zero when no optical signal is present. Offset nulling returns values to factory settings and is critical for accurate calibration . 4. Referencing to a Light Source Connect the EPM-50 to a stable light source, such as the ELS-50. Activate the desired wavelength and set the reference power on the meter. This step establishes a baseline for absolute power measurements. Repeat the procedure for each wavelength you intend to measure (e.g., 850, 1310, 1490, 1550 nm), . 5. Measurement Verification After referencing, measure a known optical signal to verify calibration. The meter should display the expected power within its specified accuracy. If discrepancies occur, repeat offset nulling and referencing steps .
