Methods for Measuring Fiber Length

1. Visual Optical Length Tester (VOLT) The VOLT uses a “round-robin” method where two fibers are looped back at one end. The device measures the round-trip time of light, converts it to distance, and divides by two to determine the fiber length. This method is cost-effective, accurate to within a few meters, and also functions as a visual fault locator for identifying breaks or misalignments in the fiber . 2.
