Installing an Alibaba fiber optic splice box involves careful cable preparation, sealing, splicing, and secure mounting to ensure long-term network reliability and environmental protection.

Step 1: Fiber Cable Preparation

  • Remove the Cable Jacket: Strip the outer jacket of the optical cable, including any shielding or armor, to expose the loose tubes. Leave approximately 3 meters of cable for preparation and splicing .
  • Clean and Abrade: Clean the loose tubes and strength member sheath with a suitable cleaning solution. Remove excess filling and lightly abrade the outer jacket (about 150–180 mm) to ensure proper sealing .
  • Check Fiber Integrity: Avoid bending or damaging the fiber cores. Use proper stripping tools to prevent micro-cracks or kinks .

Step 2: Cable Installation in the Splice Box

  • Select Sealing Rings: Choose sealing rings that match the cable diameter. Place two rings on the prepared cable end .
  • Insert the Cable: Position the cable into the designated entry port of the splice box. For armored or loose-tube cables, ensure proper alignment with the grommets .
  • Grounding: Connect and ground the cable's shield layer if applicable .
  • Seal the Cable: Wrap self-adhesive sealing tape between the sealing rings to create a moisture-proof seal. Insert the sealed cable into the closure and secure it with a hose clamp or mechanical fastener .

Step 3: Fiber Splicing

  • Strip and Clean Fibers: Remove the fiber coating and clean the bare fibers with lint-free wipes and isopropyl alcohol .
  • Cleave Fibers: Use a precision fiber cleaver to create flat, perpendicular end faces for low-loss splicing .
  • Splice Fibers: Perform either fusion splicing (welding fibers) or mechanical splicing (using alignment connectors) according to manufacturer instructions .
  • Protect Splices: Place spliced fibers into splice trays and cover with protective sleeves to prevent environmental damage .

Step 4: Organizing and Securing Fibers

  • Fiber Management: Route fibers neatly within the splice tray, maintaining proper bend radius and strain relief .
  • Labeling: Clearly label each fiber and port, especially for OTDR-enabled boxes, and maintain a log of baseline traces for future fault analysis .

Step 5: Closing and Mounting the Splice Box

  • Install Sealing Gasket: Place the gasket and close the cover, ensuring all O-rings and seals are properly seated. Apply dielectric grease if recommended for waterproofing .
  • Secure Closure: Tighten screws or clamps to maintain mechanical pressure and environmental protection .
  • Mounting: Use pre-drilled holes, snap-in brackets, or pole/wall mounts to secure the splice box in its final location. Ensure it is stable and protected from physical damage .

Step 6: Testing and Verification

  • OTDR or Power Meter Testing: Verify the integrity of spliced fibers using an OTDR or optical power meter to ensure minimal signal loss .
  • Final Inspection: Check all seals, cable entries, and fiber routing before completing installation. Ensure the enclosure is dust- and water-tight, typically rated IP65 or IP67 . By following these steps, the Alibaba fiber optic splice box can be installed efficiently, providing secure, organized, and protected fiber connections suitable for indoor, outdoor, aerial, pole-mounted, or underground applications .
