Huawei composite optical cable splicing involves carefully separating the optical fibers and copper wires, connecting them with crimp tubes and connectors, and testing for optical power and loss.

Splicing Procedure

  1. Cable Preparation Route the Huawei optical/electrical composite cable through the conduit or tube to the installation point, such as an 86 panel box . Cut the cable along the center and separate the copper wires on both sides to expose the optical fiber. Strip the outer jacket of the copper wires, leaving 5–8 mm exposed .
  2. Connector and Crimping Take a 3-pin connector and press the crimp tube onto both ends of the cable. Connect the red wire to the copper wire with the red color bar and the black wire to the other copper wire. Secure the crimp tube to prevent copper leakage and ensure proper heat shrink application .
  3. Optical Fiber Splicing Splice the optical fibers using a fusion splicer or mechanical splice, then store the spliced fibers in a secure 86 box with adhesive tape . Ensure fibers are properly coiled to avoid bending stress.
  4. Testing After splicing, use an optical power meter to verify that the optical power or insertion loss is within the normal range. The total insertion loss includes both the connector and the optical cable length .

Huawei also offers pre-terminated XC/UPC OPGW patch cables for FTTR (Fiber To The Room) solutions. These cables integrate optical and electrical functionalities, allowing non-fusion splicing installation in indoor conduits. They are flexible, flame-retardant, and compatible with Huawei ONU and GPON splitter products .

  • Avoid sharp bends; maintain the minimum bending radius.
  • Ensure copper connections are secure to prevent power loss.
  • Label and document spliced fibers for future maintenance.
