Verify that the busbars are free of voltage and that the blasting area is clear of personnel . Inspect busbar sections for damage during transport and keep protective end caps in place until installation .

Alignment and Joint Assembly

  1. Remove protective covers from the busbar and joint blocks .
  2. Align busbar sections carefully, matching large alignment parts to large and small to small. Ensure conductors are clean and dry before assembly .
  3. Tighten adjunct bolts lightly to hold the busbar in place, then check alignment from multiple directions .
  4. Secure joint bolts with the recommended torque (e.g., 83 Nm) after confirming proper alignment .
  5. Install joint covers and adjunct lids to protect the connection.

Insulation and Filling

  • Use silicone or insulating filler through the designated injection points to cover the conductors fully, preventing accidental contact .
  • Ensure the filler is visible through transparent pipes to confirm complete coverage. Replace plastic lids after filling .

Connection to Blasting Circuit

  • Lay firing wires from the busbar to the blasting caps, checking continuity at each stage .
  • Connect blasting caps in the desired arrangement without energizing the circuit until all safety checks are complete .
  • Only after confirming the area is clear and all connections are secure should the circuit be energized for firing .

Earthing and Final Checks

  • If using a busbar earthing panel, ensure the circuit-breaker is OFF and the panel is in the disconnected position before connecting to earth .
  • Verify that all incoming and outgoing panels are in test mode to prevent accidental energization .
  • Perform a final visual inspection and electrical check to confirm proper installation and alignment . By following these steps, busbars in electric blasting operations can be connected safely, ensuring reliable current distribution while minimizing the risk of accidental detonation or electrical hazards.
